Young Bill Gunter
George William  “Bill” Gunter, 1936-2007

It was recently learned that ASAer “Bill” Gunter passed away at his home in Daytona Beach, Florida, January 21 of this year.  He was 71 years old.  He served with the 280th USASA Company in Berlin from August 1959 to May 1961.  He was employed by a commercial airline for many years and was more recently retired.  Bill is best known to several of the Berliner Kameraden members for his work in putting together and maintaining the 280th Company Web Site (280-usasa-Berlin.com), for which he did a superb job.  More recently he attended the 280th Company reunion in early May of 2006 in Bethesda, Maryland (a close-in suburb of Washington, D.C.), where he served as the official photographer for the event.

For those of us who had the privilege to work with Bill in setting up the web site through frequent telephone calls and e-mail messages, we found him to be a quiet, gentle person who was cooperative and patient in every way in bringing his expertise to bear in constructing a quality product. And his photography work for the reunion  was no less so. The 280th’s  fraternity of comrades is diminished with Bill’s passing.  He will be missed by all who knew him.
